Tomorrow: The 8-Letter Word

Tomorrow's looking warm and sunny, and we still have adequate daylight til just after 8pm if i'm not mistaken, so unless the Lord sends surprise rain, we'll be meeting at Bidwell Park (there's a google map link on the right) tomorrow at 7:30pm.

We're still in James 1, with a couple more verses to squeak through, so take some time to think about this:

"If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

"Religion"? That's a dirty word these days, even in church!

But what does James mean by "religion", and how is he using it here? What do you think about the definition of "pure and faultless" religion James gives? How do you think James' audience thought about religion and how do you think they responded to James? How does what James say match up with how we think about religion today?

Think about it, pray about it, then come and let's see what the Spirit has revealed to everyone.
